Ceramic Bit making @ The Depot

We ask our community to come together to create small ceramic bits with us.  Central to this exhibition is an interactive rock tumbler – an instrument and a time machine – that uses river water, silt, and local clay to smooth and polish gravel and riprap. We need this bits to polish the stones in the rock tumbler, while creating a cushion between the rock to prevent collusion.

Studio event- Ceramic Bits Making

Inside a rock tumbler, small clay beads act as both the vehicle for abrasive grit and as a cushion between stones, grinding them down while softening their fall. Join the collaborators of Library of Radical Returns to make rock tumbling medium out of local clay and share a deep listening experience, reflecting moments collected from our walks along the river and in the studio. This activity is the first of a series of engagements that will culminate toward the upcoming exhibition walking with: Michael Jevon Demps, Lily Cox-Richard, and Library of Radical Returns at Visual Art Center of Richmond, opening November 15, 2019.
